Proposed Initiatives

The annaual Doctoral Students Conference (DSC) is the primary event of the APRU DSN. We are also embarking on a 'League of Friends' - a network to connect doctoral students by sharing their research areas and contact details with each other.

Apart from these, a number of new initiatives are under discussion. These include:

Doctoral Exchange Program

This is a proposal to enable doctoral students from APRU member universities to visit and work in another member university for a certain period during the year. This should help increase research collaboration among APRU member universities. For it to be feasible, APRU member universities would have to fund the exchange program.

Online Journal

We propose to have a multidisciplinary online journal whereby doctoral students would be invited to submit short papers. Copyright of the papers would reside both with APRU DSN as well as the author. The author(s) would be free to extend the papers and send it to other journals/conferences. A team of reviewers across disciplines need to be established. As a starting point, the best papers from past DSCs could be selected for the online journal.
Local University Chapters
To take the Doctoral Students Network to the heart of every university, local chapters could be started across APRU member universities. This would require initiative at the local university level. The primary idea would be to facilitate seminars, lectures and research collaboration within and across APRU member universities. The Waseda University Doctoral Students' Network (WUDSN) serves as a fine example for other universities to emulate.
